Pricing Structure
My pricing structure offers flexibility and value at an hourly rate of £25.
For overseas customers my rate is:
$40 USD,
$45 CAD,
$50 AUD,
$55 NZD.
I base my estimates of cost upon packages of work. Please note that research complexity may vary, and I will discuss with you any changes I may need to our agreed hours.
In addition to my hourly rate, I may charge for travel time and related expenses, including transportation, accommodation, meals, and costs of printing and shipping a paper document. I will provide estimates upfront if these additional costs are involved and will supply receipts of expenses and a log of hours worked upon request.
I accept bank transfers and PayPal as methods of payment. For commissions I take a 20% deposit and will bill at monthly intervals.
Packages
I have six packages. If these packages are unsuitable for your needs, I can customize your experience and mix and match services. Unless you request otherwise I will calculate my costs based upon reports created in PDF format. I can also supply printed documents or a web-based archive.
Family Tree Compilation
The family tree in this package goes back about five generations to the late 1700s or early 1800s. The cost will include birth, marriage and death certificates if these are required to confirm the tree. You will receive a pedigree tree and a simple outline report giving vital dates, places of residence and occupation. I will also send you certificates acquired for the family tree research.
We will agree the surnames that you want to trace back. As a rule of thumb, one surname takes about 8 hours to document.
Family Storybook
For the narrative-driven family story book I offer a free initial consultation equivalent to up to two hours work. This will comprise an initial discussion about your needs and motivations for the research, my preliminary investigation into the work involved and a research proposal that includes the reports to be produced and an estimate of the cost.
Heritage Travel Guide
For the personalized travel guide to ancestral locations I offer a free initial consultation equivalent to up to two hours work. This will comprise an initial discussion about your needs and motivations for the research, my preliminary investigation into the work involved and a research proposal that includes the reports to be produced and an estimate of the cost.
Heritage Tours
As a tour guide of your ancestral places, I will offer a daily rate of £250 for showing you around, plus expenses such as travel, food, and entrance tickets. In addition I will bill you the time taken to research, design and organise the tour.
Mentoring
Guided research and mentoring sessions might include us travelling to archives to help you become familiar with original sources, delivering training to help you get started on your family research or advising on research dilemmas as and when they arise.
Remote Research
Research and record look ups for remote clients might include travelling to archives to carry out research and online research in digitised records on behalf of someone else.
Payment Terms
Payment is due when the assignment is completed or, for longer projects, after 8 hours of work, whichever is sooner. These 8 hourly pay points provide milestones where we can review progress and discuss the way forward.
